The commercial diets are more efficient
If you are preparing to follow an individual diet plan, you should think well, at least according to a new British research that concluded that commercial weight loss diets (like Weight Watchers) are more effective and less expensive compared with specially designed programs under the supervision of trained staff.
Researchers from the University of Birmingham compared weight loss among obese and overweight men and women enrolled in commercial diet programs lasting 12 weeks, compared with specially designed programs, such as coordinating a group or counseling on an individual basis by trained personnel or in the pharmacy. The survey included a control group involving patients who were given 12 coupons for free visits to a local gym. At the beginning of the investigation, 740 were enrolled at 12 weeks 658 and a year later was 522.
All participants had lost weight in 12 weeks. However, those who participated in commercial weight loss programs lost an average of 5 pounds, while the remaining approximately 1.5. The group of participants in commercial weight reduction programs continued to maintain greater weight loss after one year.
The research was published online in the journal «British Medical Journal».
